CELTIC CHRISTIAN UNIVERSALISM
Celtic Christian Universalism is related to the theology of Christian Universalism or Universalism or sometime called the “Wider Hope, Biblical Universalism, Evangelical Inclusiveness, Universal Restorationism and many other name” that it goes by today within the Christian Community. The Premise of this Theology states that in the end all sentient beings will be holy and happy with the Bosom of God.
In fact from reading a lot of the Church Fathers and Mother both Celtic and not, there shows that this theology was prominent within the early Church of the first six centuries. But if this is true or not it is certain that many have held the view down through the ages, and today there is a growing resurgence of the teaching among conservative bible believing Christians.
Some of the early church pioneers of
the Church that taught this doctrine where Origen, Clement of Alexandria,
Marcellus of Ancyra, Titus of Bostra, Gregory Nazianzen, Evagrius, Didymus,
Diodorus of Tarsus, Theodore of Mopsuestia, Fabius Manus Victorinus, Gregory of
Nyssa and countless others within the early church.
The Early church father , Basil the Great (AD 329-379) writes,"The mass of men (Christians) say that there is to be an end of punishment to those who are punished." This testimony as to the state of opinion at that time is very illuminating!
Within the Celtic Church we have two famous saints that expounded this doctrine called Morgan of Wales or commonly known as Pelagius and John Scotus Eregina
Within our form Christian Universalism that is found on the Archdiocese and the EOSN website, we still hold to the biblical aspects that all mankind will be saved the work that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ did on the Cross and all must repent of their sins either in this world or the next. Unlike the radical anti-biblical form found with in the Unitarian Church.
Contrary to the false charges brought against traditional Christian Universalists, we still hold that God does not forgives sin without the blood of Christ. We insist that only through faith in Christ may any be saved. We do not deny that there will be many who must first suffer the pains of hell before they ascent to heaven. We simply deny that hell is of endless duration and that there is no possibility for the lost in hell to ever be regenerated by the Holy Spirit, repent and receiving Christ.
Unlike what many people from seeing our website, the archdiocese and the EOSN still holds that the plenary, verbal inspiration of Scripture. We teach that the scriptures is the standard for all faith and practice as taught by the Nicene Creed. For As Celts we see Christ in every human being that we come across, and is seen in every creation of God.
